What is Die Casting?

Die casting is a metal forming process that injects molten metal into a steel mold. After injection the metal solidifies quickly and the part is ejected from the mold. Since the mold is extremely durable, the mold's design can be complex and quite precise. The process is quick and it has the benefit of increased quality and repeatability, often at lower costs compared to other processes. Die casting is considered to be the most efficient way of converting raw material into finished product. Die castings are characterized by a very good surface finish (by casting standards) and dimensional consistency.

Benefits of our Die Casting:

  • Cost-effective high volume production
  • Manufacture of complex net shapes
  • Consistent quality over high volumes
  • Tight tolerances achieved as cast
  • Long tool die life
Processes

The traditional die casting process may be described as the injection under high pressure into a steel mould (otherwise known as a tool or die) of a molten metal alloy. This solidifies rapidly (in a few seconds) to form a net-shaped component, which is then automatically extracted.

The majority of zinc components, and non-ferrous components in general, are produced by the high-pressure die casting process. Other casting processes include gravity casting and investment casting, suitable for low volumes or materials with very high melting points.
